Biofilms (bacteria, algae, jelly) causes higher BOD, COD, TSS, and blockages. Biofilms will also foul cooling tower distribution decks, tower in-fills, pipings, and basins. When excessive algae, biofilms develop, portions eventually break loose and transport to other parts of the system, causing system failure and causes the chiller to work much harder.
