Product details of Fujian Rock Oolong Tea (250g)

UsageTea is one of the most popular types of beverage in the world, with myriad varieties in existence and various methods of preparation favored to make it an enjoyable drink for any occasion.

Oolong tea in particular enjoys both fame and a long history, dating back to at least 1857 AD. Derived from the camellia sinensis plant and beloved throughout China and the world, oolong tea is particularly characteristic of the Fujian region and is the center of the Gongfu tea ceremony.

However, there is no need to travel abroad or make great expense to enjoy the complex, floral taste of Chinese oolong tea. Harmony Chinese Tea Enterprise brings you Fujian Rock Tea Oolong Tea, specifically taking the form of the prized Dahongpao variety that is sourced straight from Mount Wuyi in the Fujian province of China.

It may seem that such a prized, distinctive product may be difficult to prepare and enjoy in the right way, but that is not so! Even if you are unfamiliar with the traditional methods of Chinese tea preparation, you can brew yourself a delectable pot of Fujian Rock Tea Oolong Tea in your own home just by following these steps:

- Prepare filtered water, a tea strainer, a porcelain or clay teapot with accompanying cups, and your quality supply of Fujian Rock Tea Oolong Tea.
- Optionally, a tea scale and an electric kettle with adjustable settings may allow you to make the most precise measurements for a perfect pot of Fujian Rock Tea.
- Measure out 6 grams (0.11 ounces) of Fujian Rock Tea. This is approximately 3/4 of a tablespoon.
- Heat water to approximately 85-100 degrees Celsius (185-212 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Fill the teapot and cups about halfway each with the hot water to heat them up. After a few minutes, pour the hot water away into the sink.
- Place the loose Fujian Rock Tea leaves into the teapot, and fill it up with hot water. Leave it for around 5 seconds. This is only to rinse the tea leaves and cause them to unfurl, so you should pour this first pot of water out as well.
- After pouring away that water, the Rock Tea leaves will have unfurled. Fill the pot again with hot water and allow it to steep for around 45 seconds.

You may now enjoy your Fujian Rock Dahongpao Tea!

Fujian Rock Tea Oolong Tea Overview

Dahongpao, one of the most prized and highest quality variations of Fujian Rock Oolong Tea, has long been praised for its taste and supposed miraculous qualities. In fact, there is a local myth passed down in the regions around the Wuyi mountains that tells of its discovery.

It is said that during the Ming Dynasty, there lived a scholar named Ju Zi Ding who traveled from afar to attend the Imperial Examination and becoming a high ranking official. However, on his journey, he fell ill near Mount Wuyi and appeared unable to continue his journey.

Thankfully, a monk saw his condition and took pity on him. In order to help Ju Zi Ding, the monk brewed a tea from a local plant that was able to relieve his illness and allow him to attend the Imperial Examination, which he passed with the highest honors.

Having qualified to be an imperial official and awarded with a bright red robe in recognition, Ju Zi Ding returned to Mount Wuyi, and asked the monk for the source of the tea that had saved his chances. When the monk showed him the tree that had grown the leaves he steeped for the brew, Ju Zi Ding removed his beautiful robe and tied it around the tree as a sign of his gratitude.

After that, he took a jar of the tree’s miraculous leaves back to the palace, and the tea brewed from them was known as Dahongpao (“big red robe”) from that day on.

While it is hardly known to be a miracle cure in the present day, Dahongpao is nonetheless noted for its mild nature, which helps to soothe an agitated digestive system on top of relieving coughs.

Once brewed, Dahongpao tea has a distinctly dark, reddish brown color, lighter than that of black tea. Furthermore, as a tea harvested from camellia sinensis bushes, it has an unmistakable mineral taste that sets it apart from herbal teas.

While Dahongpao and other variants of oolong tea are still grown on scenic Mount Wuyi, its current status as a UNESCO Heritage Site means that industrial tea growing and processing has been moved elsewhere in Fujian. Even so, Harmony Chinese Tea Enterprise has spared no expense and effort to source the most authentic oolong tea leaves from farms in Fujian, utilizing cuttings of the same source that inspired the story of Ju Zi Ding.

Considering all the enjoyment and health benefits that a tea drinker can get from Dahongpao tea, it’s clear that Harmony Chinese Tea Enterprise’s Fujian Rock Tea Oolong Tea offers an excellent and affordable opportunity to discover this iconic piece of Fujian and Chinese culture for yourself!
